Dr Venugopalan introduced, initiated and established community ambulance service by networking the existing resources with single point three digits, emergency response number for accessing public in the event of medical emergencies and accidents. Initially it was started at Calicut metro with 20 ambulances on 18.02.2011. The beneficiaries are 6, 00,000 population of Calicut metro and after tree months on 04.06.2011 the project extended to whole district by adding another 30 ambulances to the network and the beneficiaries are 30,00,000 population . On 01.07.2011, the project has extended to neighboring districts – Malappuram, Wayanad with 50 ambulances. Now another 55, 00,000 population also added to the beneficiary list. The project is called ANGELS (Active Network group of Emergency Life Savers), implemented with prompt support of District Administration, Police, Fire Force, Ambulance operator, Government and private hospitals , Voluntary organizations. It is a typical model of pre-hospital care system for countries with fewer resources. Government of Kerala is planning to implement the project in the entire Kerala. Dr Venugopalan designed and established First Response Training Program [BLS, Basic Trauma Care , First Aid and Disaster Management]for ambulance drivers and one year EMCT (Emergency Medical care Technical course) (basic course) for ambulance workers first time in India .

for the benefit of general public of Calicut District. The project is also taken care the expenses of up to 1, 00,000/-INR medical emergencies and accidents for 24 hours. EMERALD is the subunit of ANGELS.
ANGELS is the most popular life saving Project at Calicut which promotes the concept & the need of emergency medical care among general public. Angels is the master piece of Dr.Venugopalan.P.P
